Product Description

John Green once said, “Sometimes you read a book and it fills you with this weird, evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless all living humans read the book.” From my point of view, this book had to be written, so that I could share my journey with you and help you reclaim your spirit and your physique.
I was 14 years old, just a regular teenage girl, going to school, playing sports, hanging out with my friends. Like most young girls and women, I defined myself by my looks, popularity in class and desirability by boys. Overall things weren’t bad, but one day everything changed. I remember that moment until this day because it slowly infiltrated every area of my life. It affected my assessment of myself and completely crushed my confidence. I became self-conscious about my body and obsessive about its every detail to the point that, without exaggeration, every part of me was broken for the next 13 years: my health, my body, my mind, my relationships and to certain extent my professional life as well. It was an everyday fight with myself, and I just couldn’t muster up the strength to fix it. Suffering from bulimia, as well as all its physical and mental consequences, seemed to be a vicious circle from which there was no way out. Since I was so young, it never occurred to me that the cause of it all wasn’t actually my body image—rather, other, deeper underlying issues. I wish I had known then a fraction of what I know now; it would have saved me a lot of pain. Step by step I was able to take matters into my own hands. Thus began my research, my healing process and my eventual successful transformation. I went through a lifestyle overhaul, and started healing. And I am to this day and know that I’ll never step into the same river again.
Eating disorder (ED) was my best friend and worst enemy for 13 long years, and after 3 years of successful recovery without relapse, I’d like to help people redefine their relationship to food and to their body. This isn't another "eat this, do that" book, or a book that paints recovery as sunshine and roses if you just have the right attitude. It seeks and makes people understand why problems exist and offers different, slightly radical approach to healing them, because I believe that’s the only effective and sustainable way.

The 21st century brings new way of eating: more extreme, more dangerous, and less beneficial for human body. We no longer consider food as a physical fuel for our bodies; we use it as a mental fuel. EDs don’t get strictly categorized as anorexia, bulimia or binge eating; there are many other forms, and we need to realize that most of us have a certain kind of ED. Many people struggle with weight, with sugar addiction, with salt addiction, and live unhealthy, even though they’d like to change their lifestyle. There is a very short path from regular state to disease. That’s why I felt it was important for everyone to know how people with ED get into such problems, what they go through, how they think and feel, how difficult it can be to get over them and how you could help, instead of just hopelessly watching them suffering. And also to realize that it’s often innocent or funny comments people make that might trigger the disease, and so we shouldn’t be as quick to judge and comment on others, as it’s common in today’s society. There is an awareness that needs to be raised. The solution is not to treat the problem directly but indirectly. This book is about realizing how we perceive ourselves and our bodies, how we treat ourselves and others and how even doing simple changes and shifting your focus can make a huge difference.

“Dear Jana, I really admire what you have chosen to do with your life. I do not have the time to read the entire book, I did read pieces of it and I do not have any comment other than – great. With love, David.” David Ure, LandmarkWorldwide.com Faculty
